Representatives from multiple churches within the Central Conference met once and discussed the following possibilities to observe the 500 anniversary of Martin Luther.  The theme is:  “The Legacy of the Lutheran Reformation and Its Influence in Shaping Current Ecumenical Dialog and Relationships”
 

Note:  This is an Observance vs. a celebration.
Possible Events for  this observance:

Reformation 500  “Challenge Bowl”

This will happen just before Lent @ Immanuel, Dixon, in which teams of 3 to 5 people from Central Conference congregations test knowledge of the Bible, Luther’s Small Catechism, church history and Lutheran teachings.  This will be a fun event and a fundraiser for LSSI with entry ‘fees’ for each congregation & donations for refreshments;

Learning & Worship Event for Central Conference

Probable date is Sun. Oct. 15, 2017 @ St. Paul’s, Sterling, time undetermined as of now with the learning to be presented by a pastor or educator at seminary, with worship (possibly with Bishop Jeff), followed by a meal to be catered.  Cost will be supported by congregations based on average worship attendance.

· we will ask for funding from the congregations of the Central Conference based on average worship attendance (i.e. under 50 = $25)  Thrivent will be contacted.

Next meeting is Tuesday, September 27 at Immanuel Lutheran in Dixon at 6:30 p.m.
