Gods Work Our Hands Sunday

This year’s event will take place on September 11.  The focus is on thanking the 1st responders of Sterling and Rock Falls: police, fire, EMT’s, chaplains, and their families. This was suggested by the ELCA and it is felt that it is a timely initiative.

We will begin with worship at St. John’s at 9:00. Everyone is invited to join us in worship as they are able; this will be a combined worship with St. Paul, Immanuel and St John’s.  It will be a shortened service with Pr. Ken Zuithoff giving the message.  Following the worship, breakfast will be provided from 10 – 12.  St. John’s is providing the egg bakes, St. Paul is providing the pastries, and Immanuel is providing the fruit and juice.  For those 1st responders who are unable to attend the breakfast, carry-outs will be delivered to them.

In addition – each congregation is to collect non-perishable snacks that will be gathered into baskets for each station in Sterling and Rock Falls; such as small packs of cookies, power/granola bars, gum, hard candies, cheese & crackers packs, chips, etc., the kind of snack you would put in a lunch….  Also – the youth and anyone else interested – will be making thank you cards to include in the baskets.  The confirmation youth will be asked to supervise – this will be one of their community service projects.  The baskets will be delivered in the afternoon.

Each congregation is to ask their respective Thrivent members to apply for the $250.00 gift card to offset costs for all of the above.

There will be more details as we get closer to September 11.  This event is surely God’s work done with our hands – and so ALL hands are needed to make this project successful.
