Christ’s Love Compels Us!

What an unprecedented time in which we are living.  It’s important to maintain healthy practices in order to feel better mentally and physically.  This can be a traumatic time for many of us, and it’s comforting to know we are in this together.  Below are some ways to stay mentally healthy during this time:

Recognize that your feelings are valid.  It’s okay to have a range of emotions throughout this time.  To feel happy that you get to spend time with your immediate family, but sad that you can’t see others that you love.  To be glad to slow down or to feel like you are crawling out of your skin to leave the house. To mourn the loss of important life events that are being postponed, cancelled, or attended virtually like weddings, funerals, graduations, etc.  To have anger that this is happening and impacting our lives so much.  What ever emotions you are feeling; it’s okay to feel.

Focus on what you can control.  You can control how much time you spend on social media or watching the news, how you react to your feelings, and how well you take care of yourself.  Try not to focus on the things outside of your control like other people’s behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and decisions.

Practice activities to help de-stress.  Doing things like sitting in the sun, meditating, taking a warm bath, writing in a journal, listening to a podcast or music, creating something, savoring a cup of your favorite beverage, calling a friend or loved one on the phone, reading a book or the Bible.

Keep a routine. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.  Get dressed, brush your teeth, do you hair/makeup, eat healthy and exercise!

Reach out when in need.  Reach out to friends, family, Pastor Bree or mental health professionals if you need it, and remember to check in with your loved ones.

We are stronger together, and we will get through this with each other’s love and connection (while staying at least 6 ft. apart).  ?
