My reflections are the same as Mary’s.  The emotional process of selecting and voting for our next Bishop was both draining and gratifying.  Asking the Holy Spirit to guide you in the right decision.  I believe that the right candidate was elected.  He will strive to work with pastors and leaders in our congregations to help answer the questions they have, both seasoned and new, about what to do about declining membership.  Plus he is a Cubs fan, so that is a bonus.  Just kidding!

The highlight, as always, is being able to participate in the assembly choir. Learning new music in one day, and using different liturgies is an asset to Immanuel, as I’m able to bring back what I’ve learned and share with the Worship Committee.

I’m grateful every year that I am able to go to assembly.  I know some think that a lot of it is mundane and confusing at times, but if you involve yourself in the process and know that you have a vote of who gets elected to be on synod council and the many committees makes it rewarding.

Worshipping with others and a room full of Lutherans, sharing in Holy Communion, and hearing about what is going on beyond the four walls of Immanuel is wonderful!

Please consider saying, “yes, I’ll go to assembly in 2017.”  It’s a great experience and the food’s not bad either!

God’s peace to everyone,
Sue Dirks
