Council Corner Messenger Article for January, 2019

What makes a strong congregation?

Passion of common belief, participation of many, volunteerism, being a part of the decision-making of the congregation, teamwork… all are a part of the strength of a congregation. There are so many opportunities for each of us to contribute our time, talent, and treasures.

As the New Year approaches, so also does the New Year in the church approach with the opportunity to volunteer in a variety of ways. Geoff Wright, Chair of the Nominating Committee, is looking for volunteers to fill the following positions of:

4 Council Members and 1 Youth Council member, 1 Trust Fund Member, 2 Synod Assembly Representatives and 1 Youth Synod Assembly Representative, 2 Mendota Lutheran Home Representatives, 1 Audit Committee Member, and 2 Members at Large for 2020 Nominating Committee.  Will you offer to fill one of these?  Contact him at 815/590-8887 or [email protected].

The Annual Meeting is set for after worship on Sunday, January 27, 2019.  After worship on Sunday, January 20th, a “budget forum” will be held for the purpose of presenting the proposed 2019 budget to the members of the congregation.  Copies of the budget will be available prior to the meeting.  During this time, anyone who requires explanations of projected revenue sources or expenditures is encouraged to ask.  This time of discussion is designed to allow everyone to voice their opinions, as well as, to allow the Annual Meeting to progress in a timely manner.  All voting members of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church are encouraged to participate in both of these congregational sessions.

Please put both these dates on your calendar: Sunday, January 20 and January 27.  Come and  be a part of the congregation of Immanuel!
