WELCA – November 2017

Church Women United World Community Day celebration will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 12:30 p.m.  There will be dessert with a program to follow at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1313 Woodburn Ave., Sterling.  We are collecting pre-school through 5th grade for boys and girls new underwear, socks, caps, gloves, sweat pants and sweat shirts. They will accept gently used sweat pants and sweat shirts.  The clothing will be distributed by the local school nurses when needed.  There is a collection clothes basket in the narthex.

Women of the ELCA will be observing Thank Offering Sunday, November 12th. There are envelopes in the pews for this mission of support for outreach. The Thank Offering is to provide crucial support for ministries that include Gather magazine and Bible study; ministry resources for women’s health; human trafficking; outreach through social media and partnerships with other Christian women’s organizations.

Mission Action Sewing ladies will be meeting on Wednesday, November 8th at 8:30 a.m.  Please join them at 8:30 a.m. until noon or part of the morning.  It is a time of fellowship in preparing quilts and lap robes for those in need and much appreciated.  There are many tasks to be done that do not require actual sewing.  All quilts are given locally as there is a great need in our area.

The next Bible study will be on November 21, 9:00a.m. with Mary Circle as hostesses at Immanuel.  Pastor Bree will present the last of the 3 part study of the Apostles’ Creed – “I Believe in the Holy Spirit” Bible text – John 20:24-31. All women of Immanuel are members of WELCA and encouraged to attend.

Sweet Shoppe funds of $375 were distributed as follows:  $75 each to Good Neighbor Emergency Center and Firehouse of God.  $25 each was sent to Self Help, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center, PADS Homeless Shelter, April House, Mendota Lutheran Home, Sauk Valley Food Bank and the Caring Center.  Thank you for your donations!
